The Story Behind the Song
"The was the easiest song to write and the most fun to record (on an album where pretty much every recording session was a blast). From piano to guitar to trumpet to drums – everyone gets a solo. It’s a barn burner. The horn players were having such a good time, you can hear them laughing in the background at the end of the song if you listen closely.
I was working on a guitar solo for another song and I hit upon the tritone riff that opens the song. I knew it would work well in a straightforward, jump blues/big band format. The lyrics were fun to write and took no time at all. Because it’s a jump blues, I tried to use the word “jump” in as many ways as possible and I’ve counted over a dozen. The lyrics were inspired by my courtship with my wife. Although it may be difficult to believe now, I was considered quite a catch in college and this song is a good-natured take on how she pursued me – all the way to the altar.
It’s impossible to listen to this without wanting to get on the dance floor. If I’m at a wedding next year and this song isn’t playing, it means I’ve completely failed in promoting this music."
Lyrics
I might be jumping to conclusions, but I think I found the perfect solution
I’m gonna jump my place in line for the chance to make you mine
And I’ll be jumping, jumping – jumping through every single hoop
Yes, I’ll be jumping, jumping – jumping at the chance to get next to you
Now if you think I’m jumping the gun – well, I’m having way too much fun
Nothing’s gonna keep us apart ‘cause I’m gonna jumpstart your heart
And I’ll be jumping, jumping – jumping through every single hoop
Yes, I’ll be jumping, jumping – jumping at the chance to get next to you
And if they try to send me to jail, well you know that I’m-a gonna jump that bail
I’ll be jumping right outta my skin waiting for our love to begin
And I’ll be jumping, jumping – jumping through every single hoop
Yes, I’ll be jumping, jumping – jumping at the chance to get next to you
I’ll be jumping, jumping – jumping through every single hoop
Yes, I’ll be jumping, jumping – jumping ‘til my face is blue
I’ll be jumping in the air, jumping everywhere, jumping to the front of the queue
Yes, I’ll be jumping on a plane, jumping on a train
Jumping at the chance jump in bed with you
